Five protein snacks: how to compare them

Protein powders are convenient, but what about the times when you do not want a shake? A protein snack can fit into a busy day, although it is not essential if your meals already provide enough protein. These five examples come from the original article and are not a current product test. Check the current label for portion size, protein, energy, allergens and price.

Carb Killa. The original selection featured this chocolate-style protein bar. Compare the current flavour and serving size rather than assuming that the historical nutrition figures apply to every bar. A snack is a convenience choice, not a requirement for recovery.

Barebells White Chocolate Almond. The original author picked this flavour as a snack to pack in a gym bag. Recipes and product ranges can change. Check the current label, including allergens, and compare protein per serving as well as per 100 g.

Benefit Protein Bar. This was presented as a chocolate-based treat with added plant protein. That is different from a high-protein meal or a supplement chosen to meet a measured need. Compare energy and protein together rather than relying on the word protein in the name.

Bio-Synergy Protein Ball. Not a bar but a ball: the historical example combined fruit, nuts and whey. Natural ingredients do not automatically make a product suitable for every allergy or intolerance. Read the current ingredients and portion information.

The Protein Ball Co. The original article highlighted different flavours and protein sources. Check the specific current product: no added sugar and sugar-free are not interchangeable descriptions. Consider whether an ordinary snack such as yoghurt, nuts or a suitable alternative would meet your needs just as well.
